MP opposes substation

A renewable energy firms’s proposed onshore electrical infrastructure developments in East Lindsey has provoked staunch opposition from the local MP.

MP for Boston and Skegness Mark Simmonds has written to the minister of state at the department of energy and climate John Hayes MP to register his opposition to RWE npower renewables’ ‘inappropriate’ proposals in his constituency.

RWE announced last week its preferred cable corridor route transferring power generated by the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm to a substation in Bicker Fen via one of three shortlisted ‘intermediary compounds’ located around Skegness and Orby.

Mr Simmonds said: “My own constituency of Boston and Skegness seems to be consistently targeted for onshore wind development proposals and the inevitable infrastructure that results from such developments.

“Any infrastructure development in and around Skegness needs to be constructed with the agreement of the local community after a full and frank consultation.”

RWE is holding a series of local consultation events regarding its proposals early next month.
