Clifton couple fights to keep wind turbines away from their property

A Clifton couple got the chance to make their case Tuesday for why a wind project should not be built near their home.
A Bangor land developer wants to put five wind turbines on Pisgah Mountain. He’s hoping to harness electricity from the wind. But Peter and Julie Beckford say if the project goes up, the quality of life on their farm will suffer.
An attorney for the Beckfords says that the wind project violates local ordinances regarding noise and setback requirements.
The Beckfords say their cabins are within 4,000 of the proposed location of the wind project.
But attorneys for the developer argue that the cabins were built after the application process was already started. They also argue that the cabins do not meet the requirements of an occupied structure because they lack plumbing and electricity.
Each side has the opportunity to file briefs regarding sound receptors before this Wednesday. The judge will make his ruling on the case after that date.
