Regarding Kimberley A. Strassel’s “A Jewell Who’s Rough on Jobs” (Potomac Watch, Feb. 8): Rough on jobs? Maybe, but ironically, that’s nothing compared with the devastating effect Sally Jewell and her boss, President Obama, are having on the wilderness. Ultimately, the administration plans to industrialize millions of open-space acres with expensive, inefficient, flora-and-fauna-killing wind-turbine and solar-panel “farms.”
Already in San Diego county, we’ve watched helplessly as tens of thousands of acres have been destroyed, buried beneath hideous man-made forests of gigantic, white metal and fiberglass (500 foot) sky-scraperish turbines. And this is just the beginning.
So, is Ms. Jewell truly a “committed conservationist” intent on doing things like “lock[ing] up [the] land”?
Please don’t be fooled. In the end, Ken Salazar, Sally Jewell and Barack Obama will make Ronald Reagan’s Secretary of the Interior James Watt, once the great bête noire of environmentalists, look like John Muir.
