FAIRHAVEN – Curt Devlin and John Wethington have taken out nomination papers for the Board of Health, challenging the incumbent and chairman, Peter DeTerra.

Mr. Devlin has been a vocal opponent of the industrial wind turbines on town land. A nurse, Mr. Wethington has been active in youth sports. He said he would like to add some compassion and caring to town politics.

If Mr. DeTerra is defeated April 1, there could be a major shift on the three-member board. Barbara Acksen, who was elected last year, was an opponent of the wind turbines.

Along with serving as chairman of the Board of Health, Mr. DeTerra also serves as chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals.

In Acushnet, there was no challenger as of Tuesday morning for the seat held by Selectman David E. Wojnar, who is seeking reelection.

The Town Clerk’s office said only incumbents had taken out nomination papers so far for School Committee.

Candidates have until Feb. 7 to take out nomination papers.
