Wind turbines anything but green

As a resident of West Lincoln, who will not be scathed by the towering blades of the windmills, I have watched this battle from afar for a long time. My observations may be on a grander scale than most, but simplified, I can see the red shirts are fighting to protect what they have worked so hard for: their homes, their health, their life. The green shirts are fighting because they think these windmills on their property will make them millionaires (or bigger ones).
What I really want to hear, is one of the green shirts defend a 147-metre steel structure as being “green.” These giant steel monstrosities are anything but green. They will absolutely destroy the pristine agricultural landscape that still rolls through the hills of West Lincoln. All so that less than 100 families in a community of more than 13,000 can profit greatly while the rest of us suffer staring at these eyesores? Green energy is making breakthroughs every day. Just last month Princeton developed Nanomesh solar panels, which are expected to be operable in the 90th percentile (60 per cent higher than current day solar panels). Why are we embracing draconian technology instead of trying to be on the forefront of innovation? I am sure residents would not be objecting to buildings on their property being clad with solar panels, on such a large scale as they are objecting to the wind turbines (panels on buildings will protect our existing green space, meaning no more cutting down bald eagle nests). Why aren’t we looking for alternatives?
To top it off, these turbines are going to be produced by a Japanese company, on our soil. After a turbine plant just closed in Fort Erie, less than an hour from the proposed construction site? Mr. Rankin has all kinds of money to sue townships who try to protect themselves, but he can’t even invest in a floundering Canadian company to support his project? And about suing townships, shame on West Lincoln council for not following in the steps of Wainfleet and protecting the interests of the MAJORITY of its people. Backing down because you are afraid of Mr. Rankin’s lawyers? The township should be suing Mr. McGuinty, because this “green” energy act, and turbine project is going to be the next half completed contempt charge on his resume.
