Community Council objects to wind farm proposals

RHU and Shandon community council has agreed to object to a wind farm planning application after a special meeting held on Monday.

Around 30 people turned out at the specially arranged meeting, with the majority against the Rosneath West Peninsula Development Trust’s planning application to site a five-turbine wind farm at Barbour Farm, Knockderry Farm and Clynder Woodland near Cove.

After listening to opinions, the community council decided it would officially object to the application for the wind farm on the Rosneath Peninsula.

The deadline for representations for or against the application, submitted in early December, has been extended to February 22 after a request from the National Park.

Jack Rudram, convenor of Rhu and Shandon Community Council, called for a vote during the meeting with the majority objecting to the proposals by 22 votes to six.

Mr Rudram told the Advertiser after the meeting: “The community council is pleased with the turnout for the open meeting to allow residents to express their views on the proposed wind farm development on the Rosneath Peninsula.

“A full discussion was held which informed the community council on what submission we should return to the planning authorities.

“Our thanks go to everyone who attended and provided an input to the meeting. We will be objecting to the application on behalf of the community.”
