Wind turbine

Leighton Buzzard Observer | 28 January 2013 | www.leightonbuzzardonline.co.uk

The growing backlash against plans to build giant wind turbines near Stoke Hammond continues with councils large and small condemning the move.

Aylesbury Vale District Council has already thrown out a scheme for the village of Ford while Hampshire County Council this week announced it wouldn’t allow any turbines in the countryside because they would be a blight on the landscape.

Locally Soulbury, Great Brickhill, Newton Longville and Stewkley Parish Councils have all recommended the Dorcas Lane bid by Force 9 Energy/Electricité de France be refused. Drayton Parslow and Stoke Hammond Parish Councils will decide this week.

Campaigners against Dorcas Lane heard this week that AVDC’s own Green Spaces team is still recommending refusal on the

grounds of harm to the highly protected and rare local bat populations. F9E/EDF has now twice failed to carry out a Bat Survey to the required guidelines.

“Opposition to this harmful and ill-thought out application continues to grow,”said Joseph Cresswell, vice-chairman of the Stop Dorcas Lane Turbine Group (SDLT).

“The battle is still on but momentum is with us. It is satisfying to see all the local parish councils act in unison when it matters. It now remains for our local representatives on the district council to do the same. It is also encouraging that AVDC refused the application for a single smaller turbine at Ford and Dinton.

“There are far more reasons for refusal at Dorcas Lane. ”

The bid to build four turbines at the Dorcas Lane site has been vehementlyopposed by local residents from the outset, and is due to be decided by AVDC in March.
