Planning board member has gross lack of sympathy

Cape Cod Times | January 27, 2013 | www.capecodonline.com

In a recent article, Richard Latimer of the Falmouth Planning Board states that even though it may well be that Falmouth was “foolish” to have put up the wind turbines, it makes no sense to take them down.

By “foolish” I presume Mr. Latimer is soft-pedaling, but still grudgingly acknowledging, the notion that the Falmouth wind turbines have substantial adverse impacts upon abutters and nearby residents – the residents of Falmouth who are bearing the brunt of this “foolishness.”

Yet this planning board member believes that it would be “folly” for the town to accept the responsibility for correcting its own tragic mistakes. Much better, in the mind of Mr. Latimer, to evade this responsibility and to impose severe hardship on 50 innocent families.

Is this how the planning board would evaluate any other industrial project proposed by a private developer? Is this Mr. Latimer’s idea of protecting the fundamental right of every property owner to the “reasonable use and enjoyment of his property”? If so, I respectfully suggest that Mr. Latimer has no business serving on the Falmouth Planning Board.
