Dark Sky Park ‘under threat’ from windfarm

A wind farm near Dalmellington that raised concerns about the Dark Sky Park was refused on Friday.

Following a site visit last Tuesday, January 15, East Ayrshire Council’s planning committee returned to Dalmellington on Friday, January 18, to decide on a wind farm application that had garnered over 1,000 objections.

Eight turbines, 100 metres high to tip with a rotor diameter of 82 metres, had been proposed for Chalmerston, Dalmellington by Burnhead Wind Farm Ltd a site 2km north west of Dalmellington. Planning chiefs, following the guidance of their officers, refused the application on Friday.
