Wind energy Bill opposed

The wind energy lobby states that legislation aimed at protecting the health of those who live near wind turbines could hinder Ireland’s ability to meet its wind energy targets (Home News, January 21st). This despite recent comment from economist, Colm McCarthy, that Ireland is at risk of producing too much wind energy.
It is apparent that large amounts of the wind energy to be produced in Ireland is to be exported to the UK, with multinational companies proposing to build more than 1,000 wind turbines in the Midlands.
In effect, the wind energy lobby seems to be suggesting the health of those who live near wind turbines is less important than producing wind energy we don’t need, and which is likely to be exported to the UK for profit.
It is time Ireland’s politicians acted to protect those living near wind turbines. Telling them to close their windows and wear ear plugs is just not good enough. – Yours, etc,
