Windfarm plan for countryside near Greenock

A Greenock company wants to develop a 10-turbine windfarm in the Corlic Hill area of countryside near Greenock and Port Glasgow.

The turbines would be 350-feet high and generate between 20 and 30 megawatts of power.

A previous plan for a 22-turbine windfarm in the same area was rejected by the Scottish Government in 2007 because of the impact it would have had on Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and the safe operation of Glasgow Airport.

2020 Renewables, based at Pottery Street, are now consulting on the new proposed development. They have not submitted a planning application yet.

Inverclyde Planning Board’s chairman Councillor David Wilson said: “I will be taking a very close interest in this. I am vice-chairman of Clyde Muirshiel Park and if the park decide to object I would not be able to acting as planning board chairman for the application.

“The developer is consulting at the moment with groups such as Port Glasgow Angling Club who fish on Gryfe Reservoir.”

Inverclyde Council planning policy is to limit windfarm developments in the area to 20 megawatts and they should not be within two kilometres of settlements.
