A packed public gallery was delighted to hear two wind farm proposals rejected by Milton Keynes Council on Tuesday night.
RWE NPower were present at the development control committee meeting to hear their plans to build at Nunn Wood, near Lavendon, and Orchard Way, near Haversham, turned down, much to the delight of the audience.
RWE NPower will appeal though, with a hearing expected later this year.
In February, the council will be in the High Court to discuss protests against a motion it carried recently to increase the distance between dwellings and turbines, and that could prompt both proposals to come back under the noses of the development control committee sooner than anticipated.
But Patrick Upton, who has been battling the turbine plans since they were revealed to the public in February 2011, believes they may have won the battle, but knows the war is far from over.
“There were cheers and celebrations when the council refused permission,” he said. “There were far more people against the proposals in the viewing gallery than there were in favour of them.
“But we know that RWE NPower will appeal, so this issue will continue to rumble on for some time yet.
“The debate about the council’s motion is yet to be heard in the High Court so we will have to wait and see what happens there too.
“It’s a long process, but we are prepared for that. But of course we’d like a conclusion sooner rather than later.
“We aren’t against wind turbines, wind power and wind energy by any means – we just feel that they need to be installed in the right places.
“The RWE NPower proposals simply aren’t in the right places and that is out biggest concern.”
RWE Project Developer, Sarah Lee said: “We strongly believe these are well designed wind farms in suitable locations which could help the fight against climate change and unlock significant opportunities for local and regional businesses, while securing energy supply for the future.”
