Cheers as wind farm rejected

23 January 2013 | www.cumnockchronicle.com

Councillors on East Ayrshire’s Planning Committee received a rare round of applause from objectors when they unanimously refused a controversial wind farm application this week.

Infinis, represented by Burnhead Wind Farm Ltd, had been hoping to build eight 100m high turbines nearby to the Chalmerston opencast site just 2.4km north of Dalmellington.

The plan received massive opposition from Dalmellington – with the council receiving 1,183 letters of objections ahead of councillors making their decision on Friday, January 18.

And a packed audience watched as the plan was thrown out after councillors were impressed by locals’ vision of Dalmellington’s future driven by tourism and the new Dark Sky Observatory on Craigengillan estate.
