Wind company says Orland site “looks promising”

ORLAND – A wind energy company based in New Hampshire is collecting data and studying the possibility of building a project in town.

Eolian Renewable Energy, based in Portsmouth, N.H., has had a temporary tower erected on Dodge Hill in North Orland for the past two and a half years.

The tower has equipment designed to collect information such as wind speed and direction, according to a company official.

“We are exploring the wind resource,” said Travis Bullard, senior developing manager with Eolian and one of the company’s founders.

Dodge Hill is located off of Mountain Road, in the northernmost corner of Orland.

Though Bullard used words such as “exploratory” and “evaluation” to describe where the company stands in regard to a possible project in Orland, he also said Eolian officials see potential.

“It does look promising for a possible project,” he said.

Bullard said the company does not yet have a specific proposal – i.e., how many turbines might be erected – but said the company’s plans might be “a little more firm” by this summer.
