COBOURG – Wind turbines, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the economy were on MPP Rob Milligan’s discussion list with Cobourg council.

The Northumberland-Quinte West MPP attended the Town’s Jan. 14 meeting to provide updates from Queen’s Park and present the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal to Cobourg’s Gail Rayment.

Ms. Rayment, a member of the town heritage committee, plays a role in Cobourg’s downtown vitalization efforts and donates much of her time to the community’s arts and culture, according to Mr. Milligan.

Following the presentation, Mr. Milligan reviewed the past year in terms of infrastructure, revitalizing the downtown and job creation.

“It’s been a real learning curve,” Mr. Milligan said, adding that Cobourg is positioned for growth in these departments.

Cobourg Councillor Miriam Mutton inquired about alternative energy initiatives, which Mr. Milligan said he supports, but added he’s against wind turbines.

“I have grave concerns about that (wind turbines),” he said, referring to a recent meeting in Roseneath about five wind turbines proposed for Grafton.

If there is enough public action, perhaps they won’t be built, he added.
