CANADIAN COUNTY, Oklahoma – Angry Canadian County residents say a wind farm nearby should not be allowed to expand.
Virginia-based Apex Wind Energy currently operates a wind farm with more than 100 four-hundred-foot tall wind turbines near Calumet.
Residents in Canadian County say Apex plans to erect 400 more turbines in Northeast Canadian and Kingfisher Counties.
Apex tells News 9 that number is actually closer to 120. Canadian County residents say any expansion will cause property values to plummet to levels not seen in 25 years.
“There’s 120-thousand people in Canadian County, and a couple hundred landowners that will benefit from this, and it will destroy the entire county,” said Pam Suttles, who is a long-time realtor in the area.
Apex Wind Energy tells News 9 their project will bring millions of dollars in tax revenue to the area, and it will also create new jobs.
