Perspective lost

Yorke Peninsula Country Times | 15 January 2013 | www.ypct.com.au

With all this talk about wind farms, I believe a key perspective has been lost.

While wind farms appear to be “bright and breezy” on the surface it must be remembered wind farms only exist because of the subsidies fostered by the Federal Labor government.

Healthy subsidies heavily funded by the taxpayers of this nation.

Since the first wind farm was built in SA, prices of power have continued to rise at alarming rates.

Wind farm developers have concentrated on this state because of the lax planning guidelines of the Rann/Weatherill Labor governments.

So for me, this is a question of economic management. Subsidising the start-up of wind farms is one thing but paying for wind-generated power at a cost way above that of alternate power producing methods is another.

Using taxpayers’ money now and for generations to come is financial mismanagement from the Gillard government which is being blindly followed by the state Labor government once more. The wind may be free but so too is the hot air produced by the Labor government.

SA Liberal Senator, Sean Edwards
