Windfarm plan for Balbeggie

A proposal to create a windfarm on the Bandirran Estate near Balbeggie is to be discussed by Burrelton and District Community Council.

Durham-based mining and renewables company the Banks Group will give a presentation about their plans for the estate at an event being held at Kinrossie Village Hall on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

All members of the community council will be attending to see the proposals for themselves and put questions to the developers.

Martin Payne, secretary of Burrelton and Community Council, told The PA the proposals were still at an early stage – but he had plenty of questions ahead of the meeting.

“They say they are planning for up to eight turbines – it could be less, it could be more – and they will be up to 400 feet high,” he said.

“I want to know where exactly they are going to be located and how far from the villages of Collace, Kinrossie and Balbeggie they are going to be.

“The Bandirran Estate is quite extensive and I’m not sure whether these turbines will be on the ridge line or how readily we will see them.

“I’ve been doing a bit of research and the income to landowners from these things is enormous, so I absolutely understand why they would want to have them on their land.

“But the question is what’s in it for the community who have got to live with it?”

The community council are urging anyone interested in the proposals to attend the meeting and put their questions forward.
