Wind turbine issue to be corrected

Brian Mulherin, Daily News Staff Writer | Ludington Daily News | January 10, 2013 | www.ludingtondailynews.com

A large crane was to be placed at the site of wind turbine No. 22 this morning in Lake Winds Energy Park in anticipation of work to correct an issue with a blade on the turbine.

Wind turbine No. 22 is north of Hawley Road and east of Morton Road.

Consumers Energy Spokesman Dennis Marvin said the turbine has been out of service since the testing period when the issue was noticed.

“The crane will be placed there (Thursday),” Marvin said. “Once we make the correction, we will need to test again.”

Marvin said the correction is to a bump on the blade.

Wind turbine blades can be canted to catch more wind or turned flat to the wind so they catch less.

Lake Winds Energy Park has 56 turbines in Riverton and Summit townships.
