Wind project: Agreement on conservation terms

ANTRIM – An alternative energy company and the Harris Center for Conservation Education have agreed to conservation measures on the site of a proposed wind farm.

Under a recent agreement, Antrim Wind Energy LLC will permanently conserve about 120 acres of land near the summit of Willard Mountain, according to a news release from the wind company.

A subsidiary of Portsmouth-based Eolian Renewable Energy, Antrim Wind is proposing a 30-megawatt wind farm on about 1,850 acres of private land near Willard Mountain and Tuttle Hill.

The energy facility is under the purview of the N.H. Site Evaluation Committee, which will make a decision in February whether to approve the project and allow plans to move forward.

The conservation agreement adds to more than 600 acres already to be conserved, should the wind farm be built.

The Harris Center for Conservation Education and other conservation organizations own or hold easements on some of that land, but this agreement does not mean the Harris Center endorses the Antrim Wind project, according to the news release.
