Wind turbine near Greenock Cut rejected

An application to build a 34-metre wind turbine at Shielhill Farm, Dunrod Road, near Inverkip, 150 metres from historic Greenock Cut was refused by Inverclyde Planning Board.

Councillors had visited the site and agreed with planning officials who were opposed to the development saying it would be a “dominant and unexpected visual interruption” to the landscape.

Clyde Muirshiel Park and Scottish Natural Heritage had not objected to the plan but council staff pointed out that nearby Dunrod Hill is an attractive landscape feature “largely unaffected by man-made visual distraction.”

The refusal comes despite a 28-metre turbine being given the go-ahead some time ago around 500 metres away at Cornalees.
