Plans to build a 74 metre high wind turbine near Newport were rejected by Isle of Wight councillors last night (Monday).
The plans had been recommended for conditional approval by officers, however that advice changed last night.
Officers said the applicant had not provided additional noise monitoring as requested, leading to a recommendation for refusal.
Head of planning Bill Murphy said the noise issue was the only reason for recommending refusal, however the planning committee also heard from objectors who claimed the wind turbine would dominate the landscape and nearby properties, without providing benefits.
Local member John Hobart said people were not against renewable energy, but the landscape needed to be considered.
Councillors voted seven to two to reject the application on grounds of noise and visual impact on the closest property at Trumor Feeds, Forest Road.
