Campaign against Mynydd March Hywel wind farm proposal between Neath and the Swansea Valley

A campaign has been launched to try to block plans for a wind farm between Neath and the Swansea Valley.

An application for five turbines on Mynedd March Hywel has been submitted to Neath Port Talbot Council by RES UK and Ireland Ltd.

But the March Hywel Protection Group claims the turbines would dominate the landscape.

Residents, it insists, would also be affected by noise and flickering as well as access issues during the construction stage.

Group members have had 5,000 leaflets printed and braved the elements to deliver them to houses in Crynant, Cilfrew, Rhos, Bryncoch and Tonna.

Co-ordinator Christine Boex said: “The developers have had seven years to refine their plans but we residents have only had a few weeks to make our objections known to Neath Port Talbot Council.

“The official deadline is tomorrow, hardly time to fully read the document even if one could get to see it in paper form at local community centres over the festive season.”

Mrs Boex urged residents to check out the planning application P2012/0999 (available via the council’s website) and put in an objection.

“We know people are very busy at Christmas,” she added.

“But if this development slips through unchallenged, the communities of Neath will live with the consequences of dominating wind turbines for 25 years.”

Meanwhile, a public meeting over the application will take place in Crynant Community Centre on Thursday, starting at 6.30pm. It has been organised by Councillor Karen Pearson.
