Have your say on Lincolnshire County Council’s wind turbine policy

People are being asked to speak up and have their say on wind farms.

Lincolnshire County Council’s cabinet approved guidelines in June, which it hoped local planning authorities would take into consideration restricting where wind farms can be built and making it more difficult for developers 
to get permission for wind farms.

The council now wants this stance to become 
official policy and is asking people to fill in an online survey at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/windfarms or call the customer service centre on 01522 782226. .

Council leader Martin Hill (Con) said: “Although supportive of alternative energy, we do question 
the efficiency of turbines and their impact on the county’s residents, landscapes and tourism industry. “

Energy minister John Hayes, who is MP for the Deepings, has previously called for an end to the “invasion” of wind turbines in the countryside.

And Stamford and Bourne MP Nick Boles said in the House of Commons that wind turbines should not have an “unacceptable impact” on communities and backed plans by Lincolnshire County Council to introduce a minimum distance of 1.4 miles between turbines and houses.

The consultation closes on Monday, January 21.

In November, Rutland County Council approved similar guidelines making it more difficult for wind farm developers to secure planning permission.
