Developer to press on with Ascog wind farm application

The Buteman | 24 December 2012 | www.buteman.co.uk

The hugely controversial application for three wind turbines on the hill above Ascog farm won’t be scrapped – even though Argyll and Bute Council’s planners have expressed “significant concerns” about aspects of the project.

The local authority has this week published a response by Giliane Mallia of SAC Commercial, agents for applicant Adrian Tear, to a letter seeking clarification of his intentions.

Both the council and Scottish Natural Heritage had expressed their worries over the location of the turbines – each measuring 74 metres from already-elevated ground to blade tip – and their visual impact on the area.

Ms Mallia’s reply states that “the applicants will not be withdrawing the application” and that they are “investigating the additional information that has been requested by the council” – whose planning department wants to know about the visual impact of the scheme from more viewpoints than were submitted in the environmental impact assessment.

Ms Mallia promises that more information will be available in January.
