University plans put wind up Musselburgh community

Bosses at Queen Margaret University claim the erection of 47-metre wind turbine at the Craighall campus would have no “significant impact” on their neighbours in Musselburgh.

But community councillors in the town fear the proposal could be a step too far for long-suffering residents in the Stoneybank area, who have already endured years of inconvenience with parking.

The university wrote to Musselburgh and Inveresk Community earlier this month outlining plans for the turbine. Director of campus services Steve Scott has asked for feedback on the proposal before an application is submitted to East Lothian Council.

QMU says its campus already has one of the lowest carbon footprints per student of any university in the UK and it is constantly looking to improve on this.
