Beaton to residents: “We don’t have to shut it down 24/7!”

TOWN HOUSE – The Kingston wind turbines weren’t the only circumstances to emit a louder decibel volume on Monday night.

Voices raised as the Board of Health met with acoustic consultants and citizens seeking to mitigate negative effects from Kingston’s four wind turbines.

Doreen Reilly, a citizen claiming to be adversely impacted by the Kingston Independence Turbine, was asking town officials if they believed her complaints of infrasound.

“I couldn’t hear [the turbine] over the highway,” Mark Beaton, a member of Kingston’s Green Energy Committee, responded.

Beaton told the audience, “We have to find out where the problem is, identify it and fix it. We don’t have to shut it down 24/7. The town has invested a lot into this.”

Reilly asked Beaton, “what about the flicker?”

“The flicker happens 30 hours a year,” Beaton said as he pointed at Reilly.

Reilly can be heard in the background of the KingstonJournal.com video above telling Beaton to “relax.”

Beaton was standing by the end of his brannigan with Reilly and ended on a softer tone. “I think things can all work out if we’re reasonable. I think it can all work out,” Beaton said before sitting down.
