Turbine regs face possible revisions

HARTFORD – A legislative committee is expected to send proposed wind turbine regulations back to the Connecticut Siting Council for revisions.

Legislative lawyers have identified in a report to the legislative review committee several technicalities to be corrected. The committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday in Hartford.

Under state law, the Siting Council has until the first Tuesday of the second month after rejection of the regulations to resubmit revised regulations. That would be Feb. 7.

The Siting Council has sole jurisdiction over renewable energy projects that propose to generate more than 1 megawatt of power.

The committee has 35 days to review and act on the revisions. The attorney general’s office must review them too.

If the committee approves the revisions, the state will have established wind turbine regulations for the first time.
