A wind turbine standing 50metres high could be built at a farm in Sharnbrook, sparking dismay from residents.

The turbine, complete with a new access track, hardstanding, control box and underground cabling would be built at Winsey Farm, in Park Lane Sharnbrook.

74 letters of objection have been received from residents of Souldrop and Sharnbrook who cited points including noise disturbance, harm to wildlife, closeness to houses and disturbance to horses as reasons against granting the plans.

Some residents also claimed that granting permission for the scheme may set a precedent for further turbines in the area.

Bedford Borough Council’s planning committee will discuss the proposals at a meeting on Monday night.

In a report officers have recommended the plans for consent.

The turbine plan has also received three letters of support from residents supporting the reduction of carbon emissions.

One letter from Bedford Aerodrome saying that there is no objection in terms of aviation safety, but asking for a warning light to be installed on the top of the hub.
