Guam – The University of Guam’s Wind Turbine Project should be up and running by next month. In October the Guam Land Use Commission approved the university’s zone variance request for one 70 foot tower at UOG’s Dean Circle. UOG integrated marketing communications director Jonas Macapinlac says the main contractor for the $1.5 million project is pacific green integrated technologies.
The university is also using that funding for solar energy, retrofits, energy audits and outreach projects. The second proposed turbine meanwhile is still in discussions with UOG looking at alternate sites.
The wind turbine project would assist with research and data collection on how effective systems like these would be for the island.
