Kingston’s Mary O’Donnell selling 3 wind turbines

The woman who has three wind turbines operating on her property in Kingston says she will be forced to sell them because she can’t secure financing for them while defending the legality of the turbines in court.

“The turbines are for sale and I am forced to sell them because of the lawsuit,” said Mary O’Donnell, president of Kingston-based No Fossil Fuels LLC. “You can’t get financed while you’re being sued.”

O’Donnell is listed as a defendant – along with the Town of Kingston and its zoning board of appeals – in a lawsuit filed by a group of neighbors this fall in Massachusetts Land Court.

The neighbors allege the turbine development was not adequately reviewed and the public was not given sufficient notice to participate in discussion about the development.

Neighbors have previously complained about health effects that they associate with their proximity to the turbines.

O’Donnell said the lawsuit prevented her from securing the financing she needed to maintain operations. She said she intends to countersue, if and when she sells the turbines, on the grounds that the lawsuit interfered with her ability to do business and therefore her contract to provide power to the town.

The turbines are on Marion Drive, near the Independence Mall.

The parties to the lawsuit are next expected in court in February.

O’Donnell was reached after a KingstonJournal.com report was published quoting her about the status of the turbines.

Reached Friday, O’Donnell said she had never heard of The Kingston Journal and said she was not approached by anybody who said they were affiliated with the site.

“I did not grant an exclusive interview with anyone alleging to be from KingstonJournal.com,” she said.

O’Donnell would neither confirm nor deny the content of what the site reported she said.

“I never gave an interview,” she said. “So that’s immaterial to me.”
