Wind turbine fears raised by council

Leicester Mercury | December 07, 2012 | www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk

Councillors have voted in favour of a motion expressing concern over the impact of wind turbines on the Leicestershire countryside.

Deputy leader of Leicestershire County Council Byron Rhodes raised the issue when the authority met on Wednesday.

The council’s 32 Tories voted in favour of the motion requesting the Government to prove turbines are not inefficient and an inadequate alternative source of energy.

The motion also notes the potential damage they cause to landscapes, the unrest they cause residents and a view that they should not normally be built within two kilometres of a home.

The council’s 12 Liberal Democrats abstained and no Labour councillors voted.
