Wind turbine plans get a green light from Wakefield council

Campaigners have lost their fight to stop wind turbines being put up on green belt land in Wakefield.

Wakefield Council gave the green light to two wind turbines and associated infrastructure and a crane hard-standing to be built in Woolley.

The Woolley Wind Turbine Action Group tried to fight the plans for Church Farm, south of Gypsy Lane, with the council receiving 61 objections. Resident’s association member Richard Dixon and parish councillor Carol Robson spoke against it at the council’s planning committee meeting last Thursday. They said they fear the decision will now lead to a “flurry” of applications across the district.

After the meeting, Carol Robson said: “There will be no local job opportunities due to the short-term construction phase and we don’t have any shops, pubs or cafes for the contractors to use. It’s clear to all there will be no community benefit whatsoever.”

Permission for developers Arcus Renewable Energy Consulting Ltd will expire 25 years after the commissioning of the first turbine.
