WindMade moves into solar, hydro, geothermal and biomass

WindMade, the standard designed to show products have been made using wind energy, has confirmed it is to expand into other forms of renewables with the creation of a new label.
The new label will recognise renewable energy sources, including wind, solar and geothermal, as well as hydro power and biomass from approved certification schemes.
WindMade said this would offer flexibility to companies that buy different types of renewable energy. Further details about the launch of the standard will be revealed in 2013.
WindMade chairman Steve Sawyer said: “Expanding WindMade is a natural progression, and this move follows strong demand from the market.
“Today’s announcement will allow us to engage a wider range of interested partners and supporters for this new renewable energy label, which is built on the success of WindMade.”
WindMade’s criteria are based around companies and organisations that sign up to the standard sourcing at least 25% of their electricity consumption through wind energy.
WindMade was launched in January 2011 by manufacturer Vestas and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). It’s members also include Bloomberg, Lego and Motorola.
