A crane operator was killed while installing Vestas turbines at a site in Germany, the Danish wind equipment company says.

The accident happened yesterday morning when a blade dropped onto the crane cabin during installation by the subcontractor.

Vestas says it is not yet clear what caused the fatal incident and it has hired a third-party specialist to carry out an investigation.

“Vestas takes safety extremely seriously and our experts will, together with the crane company and authorities conduct a thorough investigation to establish the root cause of this accident,” says a statement from the Danish group.

The company will provide more details once a “root cause analysis” is complete, it adds.
