Hope Maine voters approve wind amendments

On Nov. 6, the voters of Hope, Maine “…approved adoption of an updated land use ordinance by a vote of 559 in favor to 326 against…” according to the Camden Herald on Nov. 8, 2012.

“The new land use ordinance also includes regulations for wind turbines. Requirements include height limitations, the maximum height is 100 feet for a residential turbine and 140 feet for a turbine at a school. Land owners wishing to install a wind turbine must also do so in a manner that meets acceptable noise and setback requirements, according to the newly approved land use ordinance.”

Hope is a 1/3 owner of Ragged Mountain that is also owned by Rockport and Camden. Rockport also has a 100′ limit on wind turbines (not counting the new 121′ tall one at the high school that grand-fathered in before the limit was set), and Camden has a 500′ altitude “no-build zone” limiting development above that height.
