Government blows cold on wind farm developers

The Government has launched a full blown offensive against the wind farm developers, who are due here this weekend for a series of presentations.

Infrastructure Minister David Cretney was yesterday (Mon) flanked by representatives from the tourism industry, the Chamber of Commerce, pressure group Travelwatch and the Steam Packet as he briefed journalists:

Chief Executive of the Steam Packet company, Mark Woodward says proposals as they stand would mean the loss of about 50 sailings a year, with the boats unable to take the avoiding action they would normally take in rough conditions.

In a statement, Centrica says they are aware of concerns in relation to the proposed wind farm developments in the Irish Sea zone and of their importance to the Isle of Man. The company says it takes the concerns extremely seriously and is considering them and goes on to say that they will remain closely engaged with stakeholder groups on the Isle of Man. Centrica also re-iterates that no formal proposal will be submitted in the North East area without further engagement and formal pre-application consulatation with all stakeholders.
