Councillors reject wind turbine plan for farm near Ceres

Plans for a 45m-high wind turbine at North Callange Farm, near Ceres, have been turned down by councillors.

Fife Council’s North East Fife Area Committee went seven votes to three against the application by Adam Waldie, of North Callange Farm.

Fife Council planning service had recommended conditional approval of the turbine.

The report stated: ”With regards to its impact on the natural and built environment it is considered that the proposed scheme would have no significant detrimental impact with respect to visual and residential amenity issues and would have no significant adverse impact on the natural heritage or historic built environment at this locale.”

Wind turbine developments at nearby Bruntshiels and Gathercauld had recently been refused by councillors.

Planners argued these were materially different in that Gathercauld was of a larger scale and Bruntshiels on a more prominent site.

However, Cupar independent councillor Bryan Poole, seconded by the SNP’s John Docherty, moved refusal on the grounds of consistency.

Councillor Tim Brett, seconded by Donald Lothian, moved approval because officers had ”done their job”, but were unsuccessful.
