Wind farm being reduced

Public outcry about a proposed wind farm on the outksirts of Howden have led to a reduction in its size.

RWE npower renewables is set to scale down the River Valley Wind Farm at Welham Bridgeafter listening to local people’s views at a recent information event.

The firm’s planning application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been validated and the energy company carried out detailed environmental studies and considered feedback received from local people, stakeholders and statutory consultees, to help shape the final design of the proposed wind farm.

Nicola Bell, project developer said: “Listening to the comments of those living locally has been at the forefront of our minds from day one and we are pleased to have a wind farm proposal which takes on board some of the comments made leading to a change in the design of the wind farm.

“We have reduced the number of turbines from eight to six and increased the distance between turbines and houses. All houses that aren’t involved in the wind farm project are now all over 1km from the nearest turbine, with the exception of two properties which stand at 800m and 895m. The substation has also been relocated to be further away from properties. We have sought to keep construction traffic passing through Spaldington village to an absolute minimum by constructing a temporary bridge. This will minimise disruption to the local community whilst we build a permanent bridge.”

The planning application can now be viewed on ERYC’s website by using reference number: 12/04561/STPLFE.

Subject to gaining planning consent, the company has also made a pledge to invest a total of approximately £480,000 into the local communities.
