Landowners concerned about the potential impacts of an industrial scale wind development in Hermanville and Clear Springs are growing increasingly worried that both the Government of Prince Edward Island and now potential project suppliers are discussing the project as though it were already approved.
“It is amazing to think that DSTN is announcing they’ve ‘landed’ a contract to produce ten wind turbine towers for a project that has yet to be approved,” said Julie Shore, a local resident of Hermanville, PEI. “Our community does not support this project, but more importantly, the project has yet to receive regulatory approval.”
Landowners in Hermanville and Clear Springs are urging the government to reconsider the location of this project, citing environmentally sensitive lands and mounting local opposition.
“The Government has not gained the support of the community” added Shore. “In fact the Province created an artificial project zone, gave landowners within that zone a financial reward for supporting wind development and then claimed that was all the support they need.”
