Wind farm company initiated crackdown

Rowdy wind farm workers in Stettler apparently got the message loud and clear – behave.
The local RCMP went public last month with their irritation at the behaviour of some of the construction workers in the area to work on the Halkirk wind farm project.
On one weekend alone, 11 people were charged – 10 of them from wind project work crews – for various alcohol-fueled infractions.
Workers travelling to and from the wind farm site were also racking up numerous speeding tickets.
RCMP Sgt. Duncan Babchuk said he had planned to contact the company to raise his concerns, but the company beat him to the punch.
“They actually came to me,” he said.
Companies involved in the project read the riot act to their workers and the situation improved dramatically, he said.
The workers will soon be moving on as construction is winding down by the end of the month.
About 260 workers were involved in the $357-million project to build 83 giant wind turbines between Halkirk and Castor.
