Campaigners to take wind farm fight to the top

Bronte Society will write to the government to prevent turbines being built in Ovenden.

Plans to build wind turbines in Ovenden are being condemned by The Bronte Society who now plan to write to the Government.

They say the structures are twice the size of York Minster and will ruin the landscape of Haworth Moor which has been made famous by Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights.

Earlier this week the £12 million scheme was given the green light by the local planning committee, but campaigners firmly believe they will harm the valuable tourist industry and cause visual pollution.

Sally McDonald, from The Bronte Society, told us: “I can’t believe there is any other country in the world that would put them on a heritage landscape of this nature.

“I can’t imagine them putting wind turbines up in the river at Stratford-upon-Avon.

“I don’t see why we should have to have them in the Worth Valley watershed.”
