Wind turbine plans rejected by Allerdale planners

Plans for two huge turbines in the Allerdale countryside have been turned down by councillors.
Mary Harker wanted to put up a 200ft turbine on land near Lane Head Farm at Boltongate while a 261ft turbine at High Harrington was also rejected.
Allerdale council’s development panel was unanimous in its opposition to the Boltongate application, fearing its impact on All Saints Church and the surrounding landscape.
The visual impact on residents at Well Head and The Close at Mealsgate, and other properties at Quarry Hill, Mealsgate and Boltongate, was also a concern. There were 87 letters of objection and opposition from parish councils in the area.
Mrs Harker was previously refused permission for a 259ft turbine in 2011.
Commenting on the proposal, Councillor Binky Armstrong said: “It will have a prominent impact on the northern fells. It will stick out like a sore thumb.”
David Reed was the applicant for the 400kw turbine off Charity Lane close to Harrington Railway Line Country wildlife site at High Harrington.
It would be 1,240ft from Whinmill Farm and there were 31 letters of objection plus opposition from Workington town council.
Councillors refused the application unanimously because of its site and scale and the impact it would have on the farm.
Robert Sowerby, of Whinmill Farm, said: “It would ruin our lives overnight.”
