Large-scale test of wind farm planned; Complaint forms amended

Consumers Energy will be testing about 70 percent of its wind turbines in Lake Winds Energy Park in the coming days. Dennis Marvin, a spokesman for the utility, said the test should not be confused with the start of commercial operations.

The test will have almost three quarters of the turbines in the 56-turbine wind farm spinning at commercial operation speeds, assuming there’s enough wind.

Marvin said he can’t be more specific than mid-November on a start-up date for the wind farm, saying the utility is committed to delivering a product that is safe and reliable.

The Mason County Planning Commission asked for some changes to the updated complaint form submitted by Consumers at Tuesday’s planning commission meeting. Marvin said those changes were agreed to and the new forms will be available soon. Marvin said the reason for the changes was to get more information from those making a complaint.

Marvin said the utility’s information technology staff is currently adding an online “inquiry” form to the website www.lakewindsenergypark.com as well.
