DIXFIELD – Former Selectman Norine Clarke defeated challenger Norman Mitchell for a seat on the Board of Selectmen by a vote of 713-506.

Selectmen have been operating with a four-person board that has often split on a variety of issues since former Selectman Katherine Harvey resigned several months ago.

Clarke and former Selectman Steve Donahue drafted a wind energy ordinance that residents also approved Tuesday by a vote of 651-622.

Challenger Mitchell has opposed a proposed industrial wind turbine project for the ridgeline of Colonel Holman Mountain and two adjacent mountains, while Clarke has said that the multi-million-dollar project, proposed by Patriot Renewables LLC, of Quincy, Mass., would be a good thing for the town’s tax base and the town’s taxpayers.

Clarke has been very active in many community activities, including the Economic Development Council. She and her husband own and operate Log Cabin Craftworks in downtown Dixfield.
