Dover residents launch lawsuit

Several Dover residents are launching a $9-million lawsuit against the companies and landowners involved in a wind farm project.

Eric Gillespie, lawyer for the group, says the construction of 55 industrial turbines could devalue the nearby homes by as much as 55% based on provincial reports. “We haven’t conducted property appraisals because the effect seems to be fairly universal. In other words, you don’t have to look at an individual property, it’s a more recognized effect.”

The suit names International Power Canada, East Lake St. Clair Wind Inc., GDF Suez and seven land owners.

Gillespie says potential health hazards caused by turbines are believed to be part of the reason for the decrease in property value.
