Chatham-Kent group launches $9-million wind turbine lawsuit

CHATHAM-KENT A group of residents in Chatham-Kent’s Dover Township have filed a $9-million lawsuit against International Power Canada Inc. and East Lake St. Clair Wind Inc., over the installation of 55 industrial wind turbines.

The resident’s Toronto-based lawyer Eric Gillespie, is also respresenting LaSalle homeowners who recently filed at $10-million claim against River Canard Energy Inc. and Pajot Farms Inc., based on the planned installation of two industrial wind turbines off Disputed Road.

Gillespie said the industrial wind facility being built by IPC will be situated on lands owned, but in most cases not inhabited, by the landowners who are also named as defendants in the lawsuit.

He said the claim is based on a “substantial reduction in property value caused by, among other causes, non–natural use of neighbouring properties as well as visual and acoustic trespass.”

The claims have not been proven in court.
