Elected officials don’t show up

New Richmond News | October 27, 2012 | www.newrichmond-news.com

On Oct. 9, the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin held a technical hearing in Madison, Wis. for the consideration of an application from Highland Wind LLC for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the proposed 41 turbine, 2.5mw wind farm in the Town of Forest, Wis.

Due to the length of testimony, number of expert witnesses and complexity of the project, the one day hearing was extended another day.

On Oct. 11, a public hearing was held in the Town of Forest beginning at 2 p.m. and continuing until well past 10 p.m. The Town of Forest hall was standing room only as testimony from residents was entered into the official record.

One would think that our elected representatives on the county and state level would have attended one or both of the PSC hearings. This was not the case, in fact Fred Horne (District 12 County Supervisor for St. Croix County) was the only representative to attend the hearing in the Town of Forest.

The scope, scale and impact of the proposed Highland Wind Farm are enormous not only to the Town of Forest but to St. Croix County.

The failure of not only county supervisors but state representatives to become involved and informed in this process calls the question as to what is important to these individuals and what needs to happen to get their attention and involvement.

Representatives Harsdorf, Severson, Murtha and Knudson where are you? I urge you to contact your county supervisor and state representative and ask them why they have not become informed and involved.
