Groups join to fight €200m windfarm plan

Irish Independent | 22 October 2012 | www.independent.ie

The US-owned Doonbeg Golf Club has joined with the Irish Peatland Conservation Council (IPCC) and Friends of the Irish Environment in opposing contentious €200m plans for a windfarm at Doonbeg in Co Clare.

This follows the golf club lodging a formal objection against the planned 415ft-high, 45-turbine windfarm.

In July, West Coastal Windpower lodged further information on the plan and, in response, Doonbeg Golf Club told An Bord Pleanala that the planned windfarm, if permitted, “would have serious implications for the tourist industry in the area”.

In a fresh submission, the IPPC states: “Your approval . . . would be setting a very bad example for nature conservation.”
