Landowners were cheated

Jack Boyd, in his letter of Oct. 11, is on to something about the wind turbines.

I didn’t even read the stories in the paper (Oct. 6) because I knew it was all a pile of manure. It is my understanding that the turbines pay for themselves at a rate of one megawatt a year. After that, the only cost is maintenance.

Most of the landowners were cheated. The wind companies tried to prevent people from talking to anyone else about what they were getting. I hear some landowners are now getting checks for $0.

If there are no more subsidies, will they move the turbines out or shut them down? I doubt it. The investors are happily raking in the dough.

I personally hate the noise and red-light pollution of the huge turbines. The first ones on Trent Mesa were almost silent.

Agriculture will cease in areas covered with turbines. It has already happened in some places.
